Heirlooms

I love any photo that feels like you're peering straight back in time. This is my great grandma, Rose Cowles Smith, in my grandma's kitchen in the 1960s in Geddes, South Dakota.

Many of the items in the background--oil lamps, a porcelain pitcher, china plates, and a coffee grinder--must have been considered heirlooms already.

Another family heirloom that has been passed down from her and my great grandfather Kimber Smith is the clock below. I've been unsuccessful in determining exactly how old it may be. I would guess it is at least 110 years old.

Rose and Kimber were married in 1909. Perhaps they even inherited the clock from their parents.
