Heirlooms: Jacob's cane

Heirlooms are so significant to me, especially ones from ancestors of mine from the homesteading era. There's always some echo of the past that zings through me when I touch one of these.

Antique cane

This cane belonged to my great great grandfather, Jacob Jensen and he can be seen holding it in the photo below from 1919. Jacob was born in Northern Norway in 1840. He and his wife Ingeborg were married in Norway in 1869 and then promptly came to Dakota Territory to homestead. This photo was on the occasion of their 50th anniversary. Jacob died at the age of 81 in 1921 near Canton, South Dakota.
